De-clutter
Clutter is not just physical stuff. It's old ideas, toxic relationships, and bad habits. Clutter is anything that does not support your better self. - Eleanor Brownn
De-cluttering is a great stress reducer and self care tool. It can be utilized at any time of the year, and often occurs in the spring...hence the phrase, spring cleaning, but I find that during winter, in the dark, cold, and quiet months, it is a perfect time to de-clutter, clear out, cleanse a space, and give away.
We spend so much time indoors during the winter months, and the energy of a space can become stale. As discussed in a previous blog, An Energy Cleanse, a space can be cleansed in multiple ways. De-cluttering is simply another tool for cleansing and clearing out all that we no longer need both physically and metaphorically. There is something liberating about getting rid of things that one no longer needs. There is also something heartwarming, as it provides the opportunity to give back. There are numerous organizations, people, and animals that could benefit from your unwanted items. Whether it is your local shelter seeking clothes, jackets, hats, and gloves, or the local animal shelter in need of towels, blankets, etc., giving away these items could literally help another's life.
Whether you choose to give it away, sell, or throw away items, is up to you. But I always encourage giving to those in need. That way, the act of de-cluttering not only benefits you but your community as well. It's a win-win.
People often find the act of de-cluttering overwhelming and they ask themselves, "Where do I even begin?" Start small. Start in one closet of your home...and go from there. Do not judge the experience...instead ask helpful questions like, "When was the last time I used this?" Usually, if it has been more than a year, there's a good chance someone else will benefit from it more.
As always, this is just another suggestion for self care. By now I am sure that you can see that self care tools come in all different shapes and sizes. So today, this weekend, whenever it feels appropriate, I encourage you to clear out and de-clutter an area in your home…and open space up for new energy in your beautiful life.
