Mantra

I am such a lover of quotes and many that I resonate with have turned into mantras for daily inspiration. Today I will speak of a quote, or mantra if you will, that can be utilized as a self care tool for love, gratitude, and forgiveness. It is incredibly powerful and can instill much peace at any time, especially in the heightened stress of the holiday season.

I love you. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.

This mantra originates from the Hawaiian practice of Ho'oponopono, healing through forgiveness. Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len, a Hawaiian psychologist, and shamanic practitioner used this mantra to heal an entire ward of the criminally insane, not with therapy, but with this phrase. The story sounds too good to be true, I know - but definitely look it up…sometimes fact is greater than fiction. Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len describes Ho'oponopono as the following: the world of the individual is experienced through what he or she sees.

If one sees the world has a place filled with pain, sadness, and hopelessness, then that is what one will encounter. If one sees joy, happiness, and love, that is what one will experience. This practice believes that if we heal ourselves, we heal the world.

By utilizing this mantra Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len healed himself with love, forgiveness, and gratitude, and in turn, healed those around him.

The holiday season can bring up an array of emotions, both positive and negative. From the memories of deceased loved ones to family gatherings and the dynamics, they can bring to the overall holiday stress, this time of year can be incredibly overwhelming. Using a mantra such as this can reinforce the importance of being gentle with oneself.

By imparting love, forgiveness, and gratitude inward, the outward world shifts in miraculous ways. Why not try it and see what unfolds?
